| pears! pumpkin! ginger! cream cheese! whole wheat! cake! these words need hyphens, and lots of them! |
Before the holidays, I participated in Hodgson Mill's Have a Grain Holiday recipe contest, submitting a recipe for Whole Wheat Pumpkin-Pear cake with Ginger-Cream Cheese frosting (yep. thems alotta hyphens. but it is a tasty cake.).
I'm happy to report that the highly hyphenated (highly-hyphenated?) cake recipe was one of the 5 winning recipes, which are all to be featured on Hodgson Mill's blog.
Other winning recipes include the first place entry, Carrot Crunch Gingerbread, as well as Pumpkin Fantail Cinnamon Rolls with Maple Cream Cheese Icing, Cherry and Eggnog Breakfast Buns, and Spiced Apple Whoopie Pies. It's still winter...plenty of time to try these treats out between now and the thaw. Whenever that might be.

| look! green grass! sunshine! what month is that? NOT February, that's for sure. |
My favorite line of the review might be "this relatable and hilariously written cookbook" - though I am thrilled that they like the recipes and the cost-consciousness (more hyphens!), too!
If you're in Providence on Friday, March 15th, please come visit me between 5pm and 7pm at Whole Foods Market Waterman Street for their Wellness Event. I'll be signing books, and generally chatting people up. For I am all about chatting, particularly when it comes to food.
Of course, none of this good news happens without you visiting and reading Poor Girl Gourmet. I can't thank you enough for all of your support! And tolerance of hyphenation, too.
